Birth

Ezri Nicole Peterson was born yesterday just before 7 AM. She weighed in at 8 pounds 8.5 ounces and was 20 inches long.

Mom & baby are doing well, the birth center was great and we were back at home for lunch yesterday. I will post some pics after I pull them off the camera.

Litium ion battery fire/explosion

So if you ever wondered what a lithium ion battery fire and explosion looks like, here you go. That's the kind of battery in most laptops, iPods, and so on.

It's funny, earlier this year I was thinking about buying an iPod but wasn't really excited about the then-current models. Beyond music, I wanted something that would play movies. At the time I promised myself I would buy one when a widescreen iPod came out.

Now that it is here, I'm not so sure about it. Is buying a first generation model a good idea? Apple just discontinued one of the iPhone models and dropped the price on the other by $200 after only being available for two months. I wonder if they will do the same with the iPod Touch after a few more months.

Back in NC

I'm back in North Carolina. This will probably be the last time until after the baby is born. As usual it looks like I will have a very busy week, so there won't be much time to just hang out and work like normal in the office.

One cool thing to note is that United now has a direct flight from Denver to the Raleigh-Durham airport. It will save me a couple of hours each way, so that's really nice.

We are hosting a couple of guys from the UK, which should be kinda fun. Maybe we will take them to the Beef Master...

Coffee Coffee Coffee!

I don't think I will be buying Starbucks beans any more.

I was running low on coffee beans earlier this week and noticed an ad for www.coffeefool.com, so I bit. The coffee finally showed up today so I had to break my morning-only coffee rule. Their Pacific Espresso blend is great! I also ordered some of the "House Italian Dark", but it's sitting safely in my cupboard awaiting consumption.

If you are interested, they support Google Checkout. Assuming you haven't used that before you can get $10 off your first purchase.

Employment

I was reading a post on VA (www.violentacres.com) and it seems relevant to things that are going on with several people I know. Check it out at http://www.violentacres.com/archives/118/dont-treat-your-employer-better-than-they-treat-you.

Introducing the book...

I got my 1 gallon pin today...

So I went to Bonfils today to donate blood - they have been calling me for a month or two now. Kathy just happened to be going there so I said I would go too. Apparently the gods of bloodletting weren't happy with my decision.

First the blood wouldn't flow, so they had to fiddle around with the needle and my arm. Then it wasn't flowing fast enough and ultimately I was only able to complete 3/4 of a bag. When I got up and walked over to sit at the canteen, 2 or 3 of the employees swarmed me. I had turned as white as a sheet as I walked over. Then I started to get a little dizzy, ears buzzing, etc.

So I had to go lay back down and they pumped me with juice and cookies. Fortunately I felt much better after that and was able to go on my merry way 75 minutes after I originally got there. But I still feel a little weak. I'm going to bed early.

Politics

I'm a little disappointed in some of the results. I was really hoping that Ref I would pass and Amendment 43 would fail, but it didn't quite turn out that way. Apparently I was a little optimistic about the overall social climate here in CO.

Anyway, taking the House and possibly the Senate away from the Republicans is a great step forward. No single political party should have control of two out of three branches of government. Personally, I only like the Democrats slightly more than the Republicans and like many other people I was mostly voting against the Republicans, not for the Democrats. I would like to see IRV come to pass in order to have other viable political parties.

If you don't read Get Fuzzy, here is the strip from yesterday...

Pluto is not a planet anymore

I was talking to somebody a couple of weeks ago and mentioned that Pluto isn't a regular planet anymore. So if you were that person, here is my backup: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_redefinition_of_planet.

What Controls Your Mind?

Your mind is controlled by anger.

Inside you, there lives a rage, a violence of some kind bubbling at the pit of your stomach. You are angry about something. Maybe a person has made you angry, or you're just unhappy with the world in general. Whatever it may be, it's what affects your subconcious. It itches at the back of your brain, and you aren't sure what to do about it, or how to rid yourself of it. And that just angers you even more. You don't like being an angry person, but you can't help getting a sudden outburst of that familiar hot, strong surge. You just want to scream, hit something, stomp around.

Your ruling planet: Mars
Your last words: "Give me a break."

Parenting

I was just sitting at home the other day when I realized something. Before I became a parent, I never thought I would pick somebody else's nose against their will. It never even crossed my mind once.

QOTD

I don't usually post quotes, but this was just too rich.

"I regret to say that we of the FBI are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce."
-- J. Edgar Hoover
